Sewing is just as much in tune with today’s idea of expanding your potential as gourmet cooking, organic gardening, recycling, or taking up tennis and jogging. Making your personal garments, or sewing for your home, provides an outlet for your creativity. It can even save you money and make you money. Sewing and design can be a personal endeavor or it can lead you to a career. It is your choice.
WHAT IS THE AMERICAN SEWING GUILD?
The AMERICAN SEWING GUILD is a national non-profit organization dedicated to advancing sewing as an art and life skill. You can find them on the internet at www.asg.org. The headquarters office is located in Houston, TX.
The Albany, NY ASG is a Chartered Chapter of the National ASG. The Capital District covers a large geographic area and is composed of smaller Neighborhood Groups (NGs) that are organized by volunteer leaders and provide an informal gathering where members share their expertise and adventurers in sewing and other needle crafts. NGs are located in Clifton Park, Bethlehem, Guilderland, Latham, Scotia.
The Chapter sponsors numerous sewing related activities and an Annual Meeting, Luncheon and Fashion Show. These activities include, but are not limited to:
· National speakers such as Peggy Sagers, Louise Cutting, Pamela Leggett, Gail Yellen, and Jennifer Stern;
· Sessions led by local talented members;
· Bus trip(s) to outside events and fabric shopping outside of Albany area.
There are many benefits to joining the American Sewing Guild such as:

· Conference — The National ASG holds an annual conference that is located around the country. Many top professionals in the sewing and fiber arts field can be found at Conference and you can learn from the best!

You can attend two meetings (Chapter Advisory Board or Neighborhood Group) before you will be asked to join.
If you are still not interested in joining but want to participate in our other activities, that is ok too. Non-members are invited to attend any special educational function or Chapter sponsored trips and you simply pay the non-member fees.
Advancing Sewing as an Art and Life Skill!
New members can join a local chapter or become a Member at Large. Local chapters host meetings, social events, fashion shows, online meetings, and more and often host service projects for their community. All members can access the free videos and files, attend the annual Conference and take advantage of discounts and special offers available only to members.

Membership Fees:
- Adult: $60 new
- Adult: $55 renewal
- Junior: $35 (through age 17 and extending up to 22 for registered college students)
